This is the first Chapter of Mark Twain's Roughing It. The images used are from the Gutenberg Projects version, which are the same as found in The Oxford Mark Twain edition. In this episode Orion is appointed Secretary of Nevada and Sam (Mark) his Private Secretary. They set off down the Missouri River to St. Joe.
