Employment
Employment
Currently I am employed in a survival job, sales associate at a local Home Depot store. I am, however, very much involved in developing, on spec, two Web 2 projects. One is a continuation of my Workers' Compensation System (see phpWCMS) and another is a real estate listing application designed to download and maintain MLS data (see Águila Real Estate).
I was involved with the EDD Job Club in North Hollywood. For them I set up www.glapros.net (no longer available due to State rules) to host resumes. The resumes are fully indexable by search engines and are anonymous. If a potential employer finds one of interest, they may submit a form on-line that will notify both the club and the club member of this interest. This configuration protects the individual from spam and other forms of potential harrassment.
I developed and maintain a web site devoted to Family Child Care. The site was originally served by my Apache Web Server on a Red Hat Linux system but now resides on a commerical service. The content of the site is the responsibility of Nancy Wyatt but the design and maintenance are mine. See http://kidsgardens.net.
I provide interactive Workers' Compensation Case forms for use with both MS Word and the OpenOffice suite of programs. These forms may be modified and used with a case management system. As is, they are stand-alone templates, input directly by the user. They may be purchased through PayPal and are available for immediate download
Attorney Management Systems
Legal Office Systems developed with Informix SQL, 4GL, New Era, Passport 4GL, PostgreSQL, PHP3 and PHP4. These systems include general office accounting software, case scheduling, medical specials, property damage, insurance and biographical information and injury rating.
Systems include: District Attorney; Workman's Compensation, and Civil Case Management systems. These packages are written in 4GL for both Standard Engine and On-Line. The Workman's Compensation System was also ported to both Informix's New Era language and Passport 4GL, GUI front ends for Windows environments. All three packages include calendar and diary modules, basic case monitoring modules, people modules and modules for maintaining event profiles.
Special function modules designed and developed for these systems include; statute/charges tracking and sentence determination, system user messaging and mail interfaces, a large variety of insurance tracking modules and court scheduling algorithms as well as a system for rating injuries (Workman's Compensation) . The rating system is available in 4GL, for character based systems, New Era, which was never marketed, and a version in Passport4GL, which does not use a database system.
The Civil Case System includes a court scheduling system based on variable scheduling rules for California jurisdictions. The system determines cut-off dates for conferences, hearings and filing dates for civil trial proceedings. It is adaptable to any contingency based office scheduling requirements.
All three case management systems utilize header, header/detail programs and a full suite of reports. Reports include system administration, case administration, in-house bookkeeping, on-login warning reports and document printing.
In 2001, the Worker's Compensation system was combined with the Civil System using the Passport 4GL front end driven by a PostgreSQL database engine. This system provides an integrated document management component. Documents may be of any file type including photographs.
I have also been experimenting with a web based version utilizing PHP4.
Projects and Contracts
"- Data Management Resources/Boys Republic
Enhancement of an Order Entry SystemHired by Data Management Resources to incorporate enhancements to an existing Order Entry System for Boys Republic. Essentially this involved providing the ability to print bar codes on shipping labels. This is an Informix 4GL system.
- McGlenn Group
Dynamic Web Site development4/2000 - 6/2000: McGlen Group. The project employed PHP3 with an MySQL database engine. The system essentially displayed selections of merchandise for sale.
- Pathfinders/O'Melviny and Myers
Year 2000 System Evaluation10/98 - 11/98: Hired by Pathfinders, a contracting company, to modify and evaluate system reports for the legal firm of O'Melviny and Myers. Formatting of dates in reports were expanded to ensure the appropriate year value was printed out in reports and input as selection criteria. Reports were written in Informix 4GL.
- Maxim Group/Great Western Bank
Loan Risk Assessment Program Development11/96 - 2/97:Hired by Maxim Group for a contract with Great Western Bank. The bank required a utility to load records from a main frame into an Informix On-Line database. This was part of a larger project, to develop a system for Real Estate Loan Risk Assessment. My part was developing a batch process for receiving data files from the main frame, parsing the records and loading the data. Part of the load sequence entailed development of new information based on arithmetic processing of base data.
- Temporary Employment Assignment System
2/95 - 6/95: The company, On Assignment, was working with an old database system partially converted to Informix 4GL. They had anticipated rewriting but halted the process for an evaluation by an outside agency. To my knowledge the system was never re-written.
- Modification of 4gen's Accounting Package
5/92 - 4/93: I won't mention who this was with because I view them as cut-throats who have no qualms about selling systems that don't work and then charging maintenance. I believe they are out-of-business now, anyway.
- A cruise ship reservation system using JYACC's JAM product, Informix SQL and On-Line
8/91 - 2/92: This was with NWD Enterprises, Torrance, CA. The product was modelled directly from a DOS system. It used JAM as a front end with hooks to SQL calls. I was involved until the beta version was completed. The system was for Spirit Cruises, a company that provides dinner cruises primarily along Eastern Waterways. They have several ships with differing seating capacities, different menus and different schedules.
- Industrial payroll/time scheduling system programming with Informix 4GL and 4gen CASE tools
3/91 - 8/91: Here is another company I consider to be rather cut-throat. I left the moment the cruise ship reservation project became available. Unlike the accounting software this product seemed to be pretty good. The development house, however, was a sweatshop.
- Xenix system management and database development
5/86 - 5/90: As a computer system administrator for J. Russell Brown, Attorney, I developed prototypes of insurance modules and case scheduling routines in pre-SQL Informix 3.3. This was my first introduction to a Unix-like environment and Informix.
- Geo-based Information Systems in conjunction with computerized image processing
11/83 - 5/86: Self employed as a freelance cartographer, I had a RIPS System (Remote Image Processing). This was a CP/M based computer system that was used to do density slicing on aerial photography. Images were digitized with a B/W video camera using red, green and blue filters. The individual gray-scale files could then be manipulated and recombined.
